Nederlandje

23 July 2014

Sunset over Holland, last night (July 22nd 2014) around 22.15 in the evening from 36.000ft/11km altitude.

While the sun is already far below the horizon and darkness has set in on the ground, the curvature of the earth makes sure our aircraft and contrail are still illuminated by the setting sun as we pull a very bright Orange contrail for hundreds of miles/kilometers that is seen by the entire West, Central and Southern part of Holland. The cities of Haarlem, Amsterdam and Utrecht can clearly be seen, just as the Dutch Coastline and numerous other smaller places.

In a sense this is a tribute to the victims of MH17, as a dark shadow of grief is being pulled over Holland in the hours of darkness
